The test for the biomarker Procalcitonin (PCT) provides rapid and reliable information as to whether a bacterial or viral infection is present - which is an important criterion in choosing the appropriate treatment. For the doctor it is the fast detection of infections.

The CLEARTEST Procalcitonin (PCT) is a rapid test for the diagnostic and monitoring of especially severe bacterial infections. In serious bacterial infections and sepsis there is early and continual release of procalcitonin into the blood stream. With a suitable antibiotics therapy it falls back rapidly. A consistent value or an increase of the value shows that there is no adequately responde to the current medical treatment. Values of more than 1 ng/ml most likely indicate a sepsis.
